Surviving the Seas, Storms, and Zero Sales๐ŸŒŠ๐ŸŽจ

Getting ready for an event always brings a mix of excitement and a little bit of behind the scenes chaos, and my upcoming trip to the Bruzz nazomerfestival is no exception ๐ŸŽจ ๐ŸŒŠ

It all started when I was scrolling through Facebook and stumbled upon a post about the festival. What caught my eye was the mention of an artist square. A dedicated space for art and culture at a lively local event sounded like a great fit, so after checking my calendar to make sure the date was open, I decided to send an email to inquire about joining ๐Ÿ“… โœจ

The response came back quickly with a warm welcome and all the details. The festival takes place on September 12th, at the Haven plateau in Bruinisse, running from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Everything organized by the team seems super structured. They have four large pagoda tents set up, sharing space between two artists per tent, complete with long tables covered in black cloth for a clean look. They even provided free participation, drink tokens, and clear instructions on setup times and parking. It really looked like everything was thought through down to the smallest detail ๐ŸŽช ๐Ÿช‘

However, as the event gets closer, the usual pre event tension kicked in. A few days before the festival, I hopped onto social media to see the promotional posts. To my frustration, I noticed that all the other participating artists were tagged and featured in the promo materials, but my name was nowhere to be found. It seems like this happens to me every single time ๐Ÿ˜… ๐Ÿ™ˆ

I sent a quick message to the organization asking if they could include my details as well. They kindly replied that they would add me to the posts. Now, a day later, I am still waiting to see any updates on Facebook or Instagram, although I did notice they started following my page this morning. I am really curious to see if the post goes live before Saturday ๐Ÿคž ๐Ÿ“ธ

Despite the small promotional hiccup, I am looking forward to setting up my spot at the harbor, meeting fellow creatives, and enjoying the atmosphere. If you are in the area this Saturday, come by the Haven plateau in Bruinisse to enjoy the music, the regional market, and check out all the artwork in person ๐Ÿฅณ ๐Ÿฆช

What a wild weekend ๐Ÿ˜… After an unbelievable night out at Borrel aan de  Binnenmaas partying late with Frans Bauer, Davy King, and Mart Hoogkamer, I woke up this morning with zero voice and a head heavy enough to sink a boat ๐Ÿ˜ด No alcohol involved, just pure high energy and far too little sleep ๐Ÿ™ˆ

With a raspy throat and big ambitions, I packed up my artwork and headed to  Bruinisse โ˜€๏ธ Everything was arranged so nicely, with consumption tokens, covered tables, and a big pagoda marquee shared with other artists ๐Ÿ™Œ

Then the festival gods decided to test my spirit ๐Ÿคช

  • The Table Shuffle: I was originally given two square beer tables set up together in a block. It seemed fine at first, until I finished displaying my work and realized half my drawings were hidden in the back. Seeing plenty of open space around, I asked if I could place them side-by-side instead. Luckily, the organizers agreed! Even better: my neighbor, who was selling mural art, only needed one table and was desperately looking for something heavy to stop her tablecloth from flying away. I offered to take the extra space off her hands, which solved her wind problem and magically gave me a giant six-meter runway for my artwork! ๐ŸŽจ๐Ÿ“
  • The Great Indoor Flood: Right as I finished laying out my large drawings, a rogue water hose behind my table suddenly burst, turning my spot into a miniature lake ๐ŸŒŠ Thankfully, my boxes were lifted off the ground, saving all my original pieces, just some empty boxes were wet๐Ÿ˜ฎ‍๐Ÿ’จ

  • The Wind Attack: Just as I caught my breath, a massive gust of wind blew through the tent, nearly sweeping my paintings right off the tables ๐Ÿ’จ Quick thinking saved the day, and after moving everything half a meter forward, the gallery was safe again ๐Ÿ–ผ๏ธ

  • The Ghost Town & Sudden Crowd: By mid morning, eager early birds started trickling in before the official opening ๐Ÿฅณ But by early afternoon, sitting behind the sunny tent canvas with an aching back and zero sleep caught up with me, making my eyes insanely heavy ๐Ÿ˜ด People were doing the classic festival speed walk past the art stalls without stopping ๐Ÿšถ‍โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ’จ

  • The Grand Finale: By 3 PM, the crowd finally burst in and the noise went through the roof ๐Ÿ”Š But by 4 PM, things went completely quiet again ๐Ÿ™ˆ My fellow stallholders started packing up, so I called Hennie to rescue me ๐Ÿš— After saying goodbye to the lovely organizers, I packed up and rolled home at 5 PM โœจ

Total financial grand prize for the day: zero euros ๐Ÿ’ฐ Zero sales, but a whole lot of survival practice ๐Ÿคช It definitely was not the busiest event ever, but the setup itself was fantastic ๐Ÿ‘ Now it is time to put my feet up, relax with Nala, and catch up on some much needed rest ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿฅณ
