Urban Sketching Course – VU - Rotterdam

Urban sketching has been a popular and much-loved activity among artists for many years. I’ve always enjoyed the idea of sitting outside and capturing the world around me—whether it’s through quick, expressive sketches or more detailed pieces.

To deepen my skills and explore new techniques, I’ve decided to take an 8-session course in urban sketching at VU Rotterdam. This course is designed to offer a solid foundation in sketching on location, focusing on essential principles that can be applied directly in the field.

Throughout the lessons, I’ll be introduced to useful basics such as composition, perspective, and line work—all geared towards sketching real-life scenes quickly and effectively. I’m looking forward to learning more about observing urban spaces, simplifying complex scenes, and developing a stronger sense of storytelling through drawing.

This course feels like the perfect way to prepare myself for more confident outdoor sketching. I'm excited to dive in, fill my sketchbook, and see how my approach evolves.
