"When Timing Says No – Choosing Quality Over Pressure"
As an artist, sometimes you get asked to do a commission that feels like a dream. This week,I was approached to create a large black and white pastel drawing—three beautiful animals, 50x70 cm. The reference photos were perfect, the story behind it touching. It was meant as a gift for a mother’s 50th birthday in October. Truly, a
dream project.
But with a heavy heart, I had to say no.
Not because I didn’t want to. On the contrary—this is exactly the kind of meaningful work I love. But the timing just wasn’t right. My agenda is already full, I’m going on holiday in September, our house still needs a deep clean after renovations, and I’m also working on my studies.
I knew that if I took on this piece now, I wouldn’t be able to give it the full love and attention it deserves. And that’s not how I work.. And I believe every artwork—especially one with such personal meaning—deserves just that.
I’ve offered alternatives: a gift voucher so the artwork can be scheduled later, or perhaps turning it into a Christmas surprise. Unfortunately, I haven’t received a response… Well, better luck next time!"
Saying NO isn’t easy. But saying YES to quality, balance, and care is always worth it.
Thinking of a special gift for later this year? Let’s talk! I’d love to help you create something unforgettable.
With all my love💗
